Robin Kiely: Rising through the ranks at Ryanair
Former journalist Kiely joined Ryanair last April after a career in journalism, and replaces Stephen McNamara, who is joining the Irish Rugby Football Union.
Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary, described the role as 'high profile and incredibly overpaid', adding that the job had been dubbed 'the worst job in PR' by some in the media.
As part of its new comms platform, the airline is to launch a series of media relations initiatives over the coming months, including a dedicated media website.
McNamara said: ‘Following an incredible response for the advertised vacancy, Ryanair is pleased to appoint Robin Kiely as our new head of communications. Robin has impressed from day one after joining the team in April 2012.’
Kiely, who starts his new role next month, said: ‘I’m delighted to have been appointed Ryanair’s head of communications and look forward to improving our communication with Europe’s media. I am also looking forward to keeping our 80m passengers informed of the latest Ryanair news and developments as we continue to grow into 2013 and beyond.’
The company is now looking for a replacement for the vacant comms manager role.
